It is usually a same day service with Padrons usually available for collection after 13.30.

Padron, short for empadronamiento,  is a certificate given to justify that you live in Spain on a more or less permanent basis. It is an essential document for many aspects of daily life such as buying a house or a car and is obligatory for anyone staying for more than six months in Spain.

To register on the Padron you will need to provide your identity documents and proof that you reside in Albox such as a rental agreement in your name or the title deeds for a property in your name. If your name is not on the rental agreement or title deeds you will need a written authorisation from the property owner that you reside at that address. Please note that in law it is considered to be YOUR responsibility to know when official bills are due. Failure to receive a reminder is not acceptable as an excuse.

  • Many residents fail to receive reminders for payments due because the town hall does not record a valid postal address for the recipient.  They then become subject to an interest payment for a bill they knew nothing about.  However, the bill providers have no obligation in law to send you a bill. You are expected to know when payments are due. (See contributions calendar below).
  • Please note that due to recent improvements in their systems you can now supply additional contact information (postal address, email address, phone number) to the staff in the contributions office to avoid this problem in the future.
  • You can arrange to pay some bills by direct debit from your bank and you can split the payment of your property tax bill over an agreed number of months. At the moment this option has to be set up every year when your bill is due.
